Binghamton Mets at Erie SeaWolves
7:05 p.m., Jerry Uht Park
Starting pitchers
Binghamton RH Rainy Lara (5-2, 4.75) vs. Erie LH Kyle Ryan (5-8, 4.81)
9th inning: Angel Nesbitt shuts it down to get his second save with Erie and No. 16 this season. Erie wins 7-3 to extend its winning streak to five games.
8th inning: Binghamton gets even closer as Darrell Ceciliani rips and RBI double to right-center. He just missed clearing the wall to tie the game up. Angel Nesbitt came in with two outs to strike out Brandon Nimmo and end the threat. Nesbitt will likely stay in to save this game.
Erie gets its four-run lead back behind some bad defense from Binghamton. Corey Jones starts things with a single, another multihit game for the all-star, before Dean Green grounds to third. Green beats the throw, which goes down the line to put runners on second and third. Dixon Machado was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Craig Albernaz popped out. Jamie Johnson then grounds to short, but it’s booted by T.J. Rivera to allow a run to score. Devon Travis followed with a sac fly to center to bring in a run and Daniel Fields hit a ground-rule double down the right field line to make it 7-3 Erie.
7th inning: Binghamton climbs back into this game. With two outs, Xorge Carrillo singled and Rylan Sandoval walked to load the bases. Kyle Johnson followed with a two-run single to cut the lead to 4-2 and chase Kyle Ryan, who has allowed at least two runs in six straight starts. Bryan Augenstein came in to get the final out.
Jamie Johnson lead off with a deep double to center as centerfielder Brandon Nimmo lost it in the lights. Johnson went to third on an infield single from Daniel Fields, but Erie can’t take advantage. The SeaWolves lead 4-2 after seven innings and six outs from their fifth straight win.
6th inning: Brian Burgamy with a base hit and one out, but Binghamton continues to be fooled by Kyle Ryan, who hasn’t had six shutout innings since his complete-game shutout six starts ago.
Erie clutches up with three runs to take a 4-0 lead. Devon Travis led off with a walk before a one-out base hit from Steven Moya. Ramon Cabrera struck out, but red-hot Corey Jones walked to load the bases. With Dean Green at the plate, a wild pitch brought in two runs. Travis was aggressive and scored on a wild pitch just out of the catcher’s reach. The catcher Xorge Carrillo, then had an errant throw to the plate, allowing Moya to score and Jones ended up on third. Green was intentionally walked before Dixon Machado ripped a double into right-center to drive in Jones. Erie 4, Binghamton 0
5th inning: Another 1-2-3 inning for Kyle Ryan, who has allowed five hits but not one run.
Another 1-2-3 inning for Rainy Lara as he has now retired seven in a row. Erie 1, Binghamton 0
4th inning: T.J. Rivera and Dustin Lawley each with a one-out single before Travis Taijeron singled with two outs. On Taijeron’s hit, Jamie Johnson fired a throw home to get Rivera and keep the shutout intact.
A quick 1-2-3 inning for Rainy Lara as he has retired four in a row and eight of the past nine.
3rd inning: Kyle Ryan gives up a two-out single to Rylan Sandoval, but that’s all. Since Ryan threw a shutout earlier this season, he is 0-3 with an 8.13 ERA in his past five starts.
Daniel Fields continues to play well as he walks with two outs and steals second, but Steven Moya flies out to left. Erie 1, Binghamton 0
2nd inning: A quick 1-2-3 inning for Kyle Ryan, who has faced the minimum through two. Ryan is looking solid right now in a bounce back start.
Erie lets a big opportunity escape them. Corey Jones and Dean Green each single to put runners on first and second. Jones is hitting .318 and Green is up to .310. Dixon Machado then popped up a bunt to first and Green was out getting back to first. Craig Albernaz then struck out to end the threat.
1st inning: Kyle Ryan rolls through the top of the first as he gives up a one-out single to Brian Burgamy but gets a 4-6-3 DP to end the inning. A much better start after allowing 15 earned runs in his past two appearances.
A pretty controversial inning for the umpires. Jamie Johnson and Devon Travis each single to get the SeaWolves going. Daniel Fields then hits a grounder that is booted by the third baseman, Dustin Lawley. Johnson rounded third to try and score but ran into the third baseman. The umpire signaled interference and gave Johnson third base but let the play continue. Johnson was then tagged out going home causing a chorus of boos toward the umpires. After a long discussion, they let the play stand with runners on first and third, one out and no run scoring. Steven Moya drove in run No. 75 with a sacrifice fly to center, but that would be all the SeaWolves got out of the play. Erie 1, Binghamton 0
